In high school, Travis was very active and participated in a variety of sports – baseball, swimming, football, wrestling, and lacrosse. In college, he dabbled in intramural league sports flag football, softball and even won an intramural dive competition on an impromptu entry. Ironically, much like CrossFit, his exposure to different sports and movements was varied.
After college, he would go to the ‘Globo’ gym to bench press (3x a week!) – and played some rec-league softball.
His sister, Kacey, who had been training with us for a while, brought him to his first WOD as part of a bring-a-friend-day. He took to training with us so completely that he basically never left except to eat, sleep, and socialize with his family and friends who were outside the gym.
He had been training with us for about three years when Lara approached Travis with the idea of taking his love of training from a hobby into the professional realm. He quickly agreed and thought it would be fun to train others.
When asked what he enjoys most about coaching at Southern Strength and Conditioning, he says: ‘It’s the community and the friendships.’ He enjoys coaching an athlete through a workout and helping them break it down. ‘It’s all about that moment when I see an athlete grinding through a tough workout and they start to see that they are going to make it through.’
Over the years Travis has received several professional certifications: CrossFit Level I Trainer, CrossFit Gymnastics, Olympic Lifting, and the PSE Art of Breath cert.
In March of 2020, Travis took over the reins from Dan and Lara and is now officially in an ownership role. He is responsible for running the gym’s day to day operations, programming the workouts, and getting new athletes through Foundations. He is shining in this role and has brought fresh energy into the gym through specialty classes, programming, and community events.
